Reserved Powers

Powers kept by the states and not granted to the federal government, protected by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Examples of Reserved Powers

Setting speed limits on roads is a reserved power belonging to the states.
States use their reserved powers to control public schools and issue driver's licenses.
Because of reserved powers, marriage laws can differ from state to state.
