Understanding Money

Economics Grades 1-2

What is Money?

Money is what we use to buy things! It can be coins, like pennies and quarters, or paper bills, like dollars. Money helps us get the goods and services we need and want.

Instead of bartering, we use money because it's easier. Everyone agrees that money has value, so we can use it to trade for almost anything!

Money in Action!

When you go to the store with your family, you see people using money to buy groceries, clothes, or toys. You might use your allowance money to buy a comic book or a small treat.

Money helps us get what we need and save for what we want. It's a very important part of how we live!
